Natural Gas : Better For You and Your Environment

Natural gas, is a highly efficient form of energy. It is composed chiefly of methane; the simple chemical composition of natural gas is a molecule of one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms (CH4). When methane is burned completely, the principal products of combustion are carbon dioxide and water vapor.

Natural gas has various advantages over other fuels: it has fewer impurities, it is less chemically complex, and its combustion results in little or no pollution. In most applications, using natural gas produces less of the following substances than oil or coal:

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2), which is the primary greenhouse gas
  • Sulfur dioxide, which is the primary precursor of acid rain
  • Nitrogen oxides, which is the primary precursor of smog; and particulate matter, which can affect health and visibility

Technological progress allows cleaner energy production than ever for all fuels, although the inherent cleanliness of gas means that environmental controls on gas equipment, if required, tend to be far less expensive than those for other fuels

Spectrum Power Generation Limited

Spectrum Power Generation Limited already has a 208 MW Gas Power plant operational which has the capacity and potential to go up to 4500 MW located in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. This plant is based at a strategic location which is very near to the basin. The advantage of this is that there are no gas transportation charges and this becomes a major advantage for Spectrum. This also results in tapping the full potential of Gas Energy without any wastage, thereby insuring that we take the best out of what nature has to offer. We also have land already available for expansion which means that we are ready to expand our business at every given time without any hassles. Our gas grid is directly connected to the National grid, so we have the quickest access to convert gas into energy with a constant gas supply form the Gas Authority of India Limited ( GAIL)

Spectrum Power Generation Limited (SPGL) is a joint venture with Aryan Group.  We are one of the eight fast track private sector power projects approved by the Government of India and are running at full capacity with our plant located at Kakinada,AP. The company was formed and incorporated on October 26, 1992 to develop, construct, own and operate a dual fuel fired combined cycle power plant using Gas and Naphtha which is one of the cleanest forms of energy on the planet. This gas is environment friendly and helps us to reach the aim of a clean and safe planet.  The installed capacity of the plant is 208MW with a configuration of three Gas Turbines and one Steam Turbine that are efficient and reliable.

Our vision to tap the full potential of Gas Energy which is one of the cleanest form of Clean Energy

The project is located near Kakinada, a port city in Andhra Pradesh. SPGL has already implemented the project without a Govt. of India. Guarantee and the Combined Cycle Commercial Operation for the plant commenced from April 19, 1998 and it presently operating at its full capacity. The project has been implemented at a cost of Rs. 972.60 Crores and is located on almost 800 acres of land, which is still expanding.  The power generated from the station is being supplied to AP DISCOMS under Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) mechanism.

We have the potential and the required land to increase the capacity up to 4500 MW. We already have all the approvals and clearances for 1350 MW. We also have Financial Closure for 350 MW, the expansion for which can start as soon as gas allocation process is completed.   We have also signed an 18 year PPA with Andhra Pradesh State utilities and are also backed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

We have the potential to expand up to 4500 MW at the current location. The expansion plan has been divided in different phases.
